Happy Friday, lovely blog readers! It’s good to be back on the blog after the chaos of moving. It still feels unreal that we’re out here in Arizona – until, of course, I step outside 🙂
But I actually love the heat! Alright, love may be a strong word for 100+ degree weather, but I am happy to deal with it in place of cold, snowy, awful winter days.
With major life changes comes a whole lot of reflection, so let’s dive into this week’s TGIF. If you’re new to the blog, here’s how TGIF posts work:
- T – Truth: Tell me something you learned about yourself this week.
- G – Growth: Describe one way in which you grew this week, whether it’s in the direction of a goal or something unexpected.
- I – Inspiration: List one thing that inspired you this week.
- F – Fun: Talk about what you did to have FUN this week!
I’ll start us off….
I have actually been more scared than I thought I’d be starting over in a new town/state. I remember from my move to Florida in my early 20s that it takes time, but it’s a gut-wrenching feeling when you drop family off at the airport and realize it’s just the two of you (and the pup).
A big goal now is to be more social, get to know people here, and keep growing my business. I’m aiming to attend at least one Meetup a week, whether it be for networking, writing, yoga, health and wellness, etc.
This week I attended a networking meetup and am so excited about the people I met. I got to know about a few small businesses in the area and traded business cards with lots of people.
Afterward, I wondered, why the heck didn’t I ever attend those meetings in Des Moines? It’s like moving gave me a better excuse to go, maybe even more confidence when I introduced myself. But I just as easily could have put myself out there in Des Moines.
Going back to the networking meeting, all of the people there inspired me. People of all ages gave their 30-second elevator pitches to market themselves and their business, and they all had awesome confidence. I was mentally freaking out a bit awaiting my own turn, but seeing their own confidence and belief in their services inspired meto suck it up and be brave.
I began to think, why shouldn’t I be confident too? I’ve come so far in my business, and I believe in myself and my abilities – how about I start acting like it? New goal: Leave those nervous thoughts and insecurities in the Midwest. (And don’t go looking for them when you go home to visit!)
What isn’t fun about moving to a new state? Okay, there have been plenty of moments in the move that have been less than fun (24-hour drive, deposits for everything, being locked out of our house…twice), but the first week here was pretty much a vacation before Kyle started his new job. We hiked, went tubing, met up with an Illinois friend in Scottsdale, and of course we had to check out the local bars.
But this week meant back to work for the both of us, and I had quite a bit to catch up on. While I love what I do, making time for fun still has to be a priority during the work week or I’ll go nuts! So, one evening this week I drove to a book store because that’s my idea of fun when I don’t have friends yet. I’m certainly not ashamed of it. 🙂
And today for some Friday fun I got Yoshi out to meet Arizona pups. We checked out the Queen Creek dog park and she had a blast. It was so good to see her running around again, licking dogs she just met right on the face.
Now that you’re caught up on me, I want to hear from you! What are you doing to have fun these days? What’s inspiring you? Leave a comment below with your TGIF!
